Cult of Chucky Picks Up Where Curse Left Off
The 2017 Horror Channel FrightFest will be hosting the world premiere of Cult of Chucky, the seventh film in the Child’s Play franchise. For those wondering when the movie takes place in that timeline, it seems that a quote from writer/director Don Mancini may give a serious hint as to what we may see…
Mancini states, “It’s a true pleasure to be hosting the world premiere of CULT OF CHUCKY at FrightFest. I have fond memories of unveiling CURSE OF CHUCKY there in 2013 so it’s great to be returning to the UK’s acknowledged home of horror – especially as this film picks up from where CURSE…left off.”
It’s that last little bit that is so interesting to me because Curse of Chucky had a post-credits scene that could set the stage for a rather interesting progression in the franchise’s storyline. For those who haven’t seen that scene, I’ll put it below some facts so that you don’t get spoiled.
Written and directed by Don Mancini, Cult of Chucky stars Fiona Dourif, Alex Vincent, Jennifer Tilly, Brad Dourif, Michael Therriault, and Elisabeth Rosen. It comes to DVD, Blu-ray, and Digital HD on October 3rd.
Synopsis:
Confined to an asylum for the criminally insane for the past four years, Nica (Dourif) is wrongly convinced that she, not Chucky, murdered her entire family. But when her psychiatrist introduces a new group therapy tool — a “Good Guy” doll — a string of grisly deaths plague the asylum and Nica starts to wonder if maybe she isn’t crazy after all.
Andy (Vincent), Chucky’s now-grown up nemesis from the original Child’s Play, races to Nica’s aid. But to save her he’ll have to get past Tiffany (Tilly), Chucky’s long-ago bride, who will do anything, no matter how deadly or depraved, to help her beloved devil doll.
Alright, let’s talk about the Curse of Chucky post-credits scene, shall we? In it, Andy Barclay (played once again by Alex Vincent) get a package delivered to his home. He places it on his table and takes a phone call only for us, the audience, to see a knife cut through the box from the inside! It turns out Chucky is in the box and he wants to visit his old pal, Andy. However, Andy is in charge of this round as he has a shotgun pointed directly at Chucky’s face, firing it before the screen cuts to black.
So, if Cult of Chucky starts up when Curse left off, could we see Andy and Chucky battling it out right away? We already know that Alex Vincent is in the latest film – talk about the franchise coming full circle – so it’s not out of the realm of possibility that we begin with him and Chucky so as to give us information on how the two films connect.
What are your thoughts on the matter?
