Reliance Entertainment and Kintop Pictures Acquire Film Rights to The Paladin Prophecy

Yet another young adult book-to-film adaptation is on its way, but considering that the writer of the source material is Mark Frost, co-creator of “Twin Peaks”, we’re pretty optimistic about its prospects.

Per The Wrap, Reliance Entertainment and Kintop Pictures have paid seven figures for the film rights to The Paladin Prophecy, an upcoming young adult trilogy written by Frost. Random House will publish the first book in the Paladin series this September, and Reliance hopes to release the first film in 2014.

Reliance will develop the screenplay of the first book with Frost, a best-selling author whose other screenwriting credits include Fantastic Four and numerous episodes of “Hill Street Blues.” Frost will also executive produce.

“We are thrilled to be in business with a master storyteller like Mark Frost,” producer Deepak Nayar of Kintop/Reliance said in a statement. “These books align perfectly with what the international motion picture audience is looking for.”

Book 1 Synopsis:
The Paladin Prophecy is a unique combination of mystery, heart-pounding action, and the supernatural.

Will West is careful to live life under the radar. At his parents’ insistence, he’s made sure to get mediocre grades and to stay in the middle of the pack on his cross-country team. Then Will slips up, accidentally scoring off the charts on a nationwide exam.

Now Will is being courted by an exclusive prep school … and followed by men driving black sedans. When Will suddenly loses his parents, he must flee to the school. There he begins to explore all that he’s capable of–physical and mental feats that should be impossible–and learns that his abilities are connected to a struggle between titanic forces that has lasted for millennia.
