Tom Holland and David Chackler Bring Horror Fans Dead Rabbit Films
Horror buffs beware! A new production company has been formed by a couple of the most influential minds in the entertainment industry.
Dead Rabbit Films reunites Tom Holland, the legendary writer/director responsible for some of the most successful films in the horror genre such as Fright Night and Child’s Play, with music biz empressario David Chackler (Queen, Buckingham/Nicks of Fleetwood Mac and 2Live Crew), whose resume also includes film production credits such as John Carpenter’s Village of the Damned for Universal. Dead Rabbit Films will develop and produce feature films as well as scripted episodic television for emerging networks and mobile platforms.
The combination of the Holland and Chackler resumes reads like an insider’s list of who’s who in Hollywood. With associations from Stephen Spielberg to Stephen King, Tom Holland serves as the creative genius behind Dead Rabbit Films.
“Tom was at the forefront of creating and directing the contemporary horror genre. He was in the vanguard of filmmakers who opened the doors for recent releases like ‘Twilight’ and ‘New Moon,’” said actor Chris Sarandon (Fright Night and Child’s Play).
Holland and Chackler originally worked together in the 80s and 90s. Chackler served as the music supervisor for Fright Night and Child’s Play. He would eventually run Holland’s production company, TH Productions, headquartered at the renowned MGM Studios in Culver City from where they produced Child’s Play and Fatal Beauty (starring Whoopi Goldberg and Sam Elliott).
“Fright Night was really the first time in movie history where being a vampire was cool and sexy. By adding in a mixture of pop culture and sensuality, Fright Night made the horror genre go mainstream, thus opening doors for some of the movies and television shows you see today,” said Chackler.
Holland and Chackler were reunited in August 2009, when they both appeared in the same article about the growing cult status of Fright Night. After speaking to each other about the successes they had together, both enthusiastically decided it was time to get back together. Chackler will now act as Holland’s personal manager and head of Dead Rabbit Films. Holland will continue in his writing and directing endeavors. Chackler will continue running his nuGroove label (via Sony/Red), where they intend to release the soundtracks from Dead Rabbit Films. A remake by DreamWorks of Fright Night is also under way.
In the short time since the reunion, Dead Rabbit Films has placed four films that are based on Holland’s scripts into pre-production as well as several web series for genre specific websites (emerging networks). Formal plans will be announced in the near future for all projects. A new site will be launched where fans can read all the latest information on new films and productions as well as view film shorts of Holland’s work.
