From the Press Release
Leading producer-distributor MPI’s Dark Sky Films announced it has signed a three-picture deal with Ireland’s Fantastic Films, bringing together two strong independent companies to create and distribute thrilling genre movies to audiences around the world.

The deal was negotiated by Greg Newman, executive vice president of MPI Media Group, and Fantastic Films’ Brendan McCarthy and John McDonnell. The three-picture arrangement will cover a two-year span, with the first film, The Cherry Tree, to begin principal photography at the end of 2012.

The deal continues a successful relationship between the two companies. The Oscar-winning Fantastic Films’ Stitches was produced in partnership with MPI in 2012, while the pair also successfully released Wake Wood here in the US. Wake Wood’s director, David Keating, will direct The Cherry Tree.

MPI’s Greg Newman said, “Fantastic Films have amazing taste and a great understanding of genre filmmaking, and we look forward to our collaboration with them. Together, we make an incredibly strong development and production team and are very like-minded about the type of films and filmmakers we intend to work with. There are several amazing projects on the horizon, and we look forward to jumping in immediately.”

Fantastic Films’ John McDonnell added, “We couldn’t be happier with the success MPI has had with our films, and we expect the winning streak to continue.”
