The Monster Squad Remake Scores ScribesSome movement on the Platinum Dunes remake of Fred Dekker’s 1987 classic The Monster Squad: The flick we’re all … um … dying for has found itself a pair of writers.

According to The Hollywood Reporter’s Heat Vision Blog screenwriting cousins Mark and Brian Gunn have been hired to write the remake of The Monster Squad. Rob Cohen (xXx, Stealth, The Fast and the Furious), who produced the original film, will produce and direct the new version.

The charming original film centered on a group of monster lovin’ kids (plus one scary German guy) who are tasked with saving the world from Dracula, Frankenstein, the Wolf Man, the Creature, and the Mummy. No word yet on how close all parties concerned will be staying to the source material, but we do know that Paramount is interested in turning this into a franchise if it is successful.
