San Antonio Horrific Film Festival Wants Your Films!

Attention, filmmakers! The third annual San Antonio Horrific Film Fest is looking for your feature-length or short film for this year’s contest. The winning entry will get national distribution for your film. Not enough? Okay, read on.

In addition, they’re also looking for the Horrific Gothic Queen, who will host the entire five day-festival and star in two Internet commercials for next year’s festival, be cast in three Ortiz Entertainment movies, and be awarded a metric ton of other prizes (weight of prize packages may be exaggerated).

All of this is going down August 25th through the 29th in San Antonio, Texas, at the third annual Horrific Film Fest. The purpose of the festival is to give more opportunities and exposure to indie filmmakers around the world. In addition to seeing some great indie flicks, films also compete for awards like best actor and actress, best special effects, and more.

This year, the five-day festival will include a concert and auction to benefit the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund, a non-profit organization that provides financial support for the dependents of US military personnel lost in performance of their duties. The concert will feature performances by The Saturday Night Shockers, The Horrifics, First Jason, and ex-Misfits frontman Michale Graves. There will only be 600 tickets sold for the concert so those who want to attend should get their tickets early. And as if that weren’t enough to make you want to be there, the whole thing is dedicated to horror film star and really nice guy Michael Berryman.

The early deadline for the film contest is July 20th, with a final deadline of August 20th. Prior to August 16th, the entry fees are $60 for feature films and $50 for shorts. After that, the price goes up about ten bucks.

This week we chat with filmmaker, producer, composer, writer, author...this guy's done it all...John Harrison. From working with George Romero on everything from Creepshow and Dawn of the Dead to Tales from the Darkside to the Dune miniseries to his Netflix series Residue...he's done it all. He even directed Tales from the Darkside: The Movie, which was Andrew LaSane's Scarred for Life pick, which is one of Terry's favorite movies. We chat about his long history in cinema; about how he started working with Romero to some insights into Tales from the Darkside. And we discuss his latest work, the novel Residue: Paramentals Rising, which is a sequel to the Netflix show. After learning about his horror history--including a memorable viewing of Night of the Living Dead--we find out why The Haunting terrified him as a twelve year old.
