Edna & Harvey: Harvey's New Eyes (Video Game Review)

Developer & Publisher: Daedalic Entertainment
Available exclusively on PC

Edna & Harvey: Harvey’s New Eyes is the newest release from Daedalic Entertainment who are well known for their award-winning titles such as The Whispered World and Deponia. In fact, Edna & Harvey: Harvey’s New Eyes has already won numerous awards overseas, and we finally receive the game as a new release on Steam. The point-and-click adventure is actually the sequel to the early 2011 release Edna & Harvey: The Breakout, but the new game looks far more promising and stars a new protagonist named Lilli. The game definitely deserves the attention its receiving, and it’s strange and spooky tale arrives just in time to make a great Halloween gift for a friend.

Edna & Harvey: Harvey’s New Eyes stars a young girl named young girl named Lilli who lives in a nearby convent where the strict Mother Superior makes her life pretty miserable. Luckily, Lilli will soon be leaving the convent to go on a journey that will take her from the only home she has ever known to journey across a bizarre world in order to save her friend Edna. Along the way, Lilli will encounter plenty of strange characters, and the game features a smorgasbord of great dialogue despite Lilli’s inability to accurately portray her thoughts through words. Edna & Harvey: Harvey’s New Eyes is a fun title with a great storyline that will tickle your funny bone and keep you entertained throughout while allowing you to escape to the same magical world Lilli has now entered to save her friend.

The gameplay in Edna & Harvey: Harvey’s New Eyes isn’t the most complex or exciting, but it does require a bit of thought as you interact with plenty of objects in your environment, solve puzzles to progress through the many stages of the game and advance through complex conversations with the crazy characters in the game. The really fun part of Edna & Harvey: Harvey’s New Eyes is that Lilli can actually kill herself if you choose to do something too dangerous, and Lilli will accidentally kill many of the characters she comes across in the game. The murders are on accident of course, and luckily, Lilli is unfazed by the death all around her thanks to the magic gnomes that follow her around keeping her world bright and cheery. The game’s high definition graphics produce beautiful 2D cartoon environments to explore, and the soundtrack has quite a few incredibly addictive themes you’ll have stuck in your head long after you’ve turned the game off. Still, the game’s dark humor and puzzle solving is what will keep you coming back among this excellent presentation.

Edna & Harvey: Harvey’s New Eyes is funny, charming, very strange and borderline offensive, but you can’t deny that the game has a great storyline and is really fun to play. The game seems childlike and innocent at first, but it manages to touch on some mature topics and still handle it with class to produce one of the best stories of the year. If you enjoyed the original Edna & Harvey title, you’ll have to pick up Edna & Harvey: Harvey’s New Eyes, but even those who aren’t typically drawn to the point-and-click genre or who haven’t played the first game can pick up the new game and have a lot of fun with it. You’ll want to try out Edna & Harvey: Harvey’s New Eyes as soon as you see the game’s quirky characters and excellent graphics, but you’ll want to pick up the game for the fun puzzles, hilarious storyline and to see the many ways you can progress through the game. Check out Edna & Harvey: Harvey’s New Eyes on Steam today!
