B-Sides: Santa’s Watching You this Silent Night, Deadly Night

It was the horror movie that led to parental protests and so outraged Siskel & Ebert they devoted an entire segment of their show to shaming the film’s producer. Now Silent Night, Deadly Night provides us with a special Yuletide B-Sides. Santa’s watching! You listening?
Silent Night, Deadly Night opened the same weekend as A Nightmare on Elm Street. But whereas Wes Craven’s film went on to be heralded a modern horror classic, this gruesome tale of an axe-wielding maniac in a Santa suit became one of the most notorious horror movies of all time. Outraged parents and furious critics of both film and culture led to the movie being pulled from theaters after only two weeks. It wouldn’t be until its uncut VHS release a year later that this Christmas slasher would develop a cult following, spawning four more direct-to-video sequels and a half-name only pseudo-remake that just came out.
A song from the Silent Night, Deadly Night soundtrack struck me as a perfect B-Sides offering this holiday weekend. There are actually several songs to choose from, but finding any of them on YouTube proved surprisingly difficult. Given the film’s notoriety, I’m kind of surprised the soundtrack has become so obscure.
Thank to a YouTuber known as “cheekyboy,” I did find a customized video for the song “Santa’s Watching” from the film’s soundtrack. It’s a remix version he put together, but it’s a pretty darn good remix.
Scary Christmas, everyone!
