Two New Stills Guide You Through Your Darkest NightIn celebration of the film scoring distribution in Canada from Maxim Entertainment, we have two new stills for you from Noel Tan’s Darkest Night. Check ’em out, and look for the flick Stateside in July.

Darkest Night is a unique horror film that places American actor DJ Perry smack dab in the middle of a mostly all Filipino cast/crew. The story is about a Christmas gathering that goes horribly wrong. “I see it like Michael Douglas in Black Rain featuring Japan [location/talent]. Western audiences may embrace a new exotic film experience given a relatable Western lead.” – DJ Perry

Perry’s co-stars include Anne Gauthier, Issa Litton, and Nic Campos. The film is written and produced by Russ Williams. For more info visit the official Darkest Night website, and “like” Darkest Night on Facebook.

Look for it on US DVD July 16th from Brain Damage Films.

Synopsis:
On December 25, 2003, an upscale Filipino family gathers at a remote place in the Sagada Mountains for a Christmas Day reunion dinner. It’s a happy occasion where the main character, Susan, announces her marriage engagement to her boyfriend, Ken, whom she brought with her.

Suddenly the group is cut off from civilization and plunged into darkness by forces that defy natural laws and shut down all types of modern technology. One by one, the family members die or disappear in weird and horrific ways. The few who are left, including Susan, struggle for survival and against family conflicts and demonic forces to find out what’s “out there” and what is happening.

Finally, Susan and the few left alive must understand the cult writings in an old book to prevail against demonic forces that threaten to consume them all. They have to understand and overcome a dark, pagan religion and the need for exorcism, as well as family secrets, in order to survive. The alternative is life in a hellish “heaven” more terrifying than death.

Episode 268: Mind Body Spirit Filmmkers Alex Henes and Matt Merenda and The Brave Little Toaster (1987)
This week we're joined by Alex Henes and Matt Merenda, the filmmakers behind the yoga-horror found footage film Mind Body Spirit, which is available on demand and streaming on Shudder and AMC+. We chat about Sarah J. Bartholomew's fantastic performance, the script and more before diving into their childhoods and their very different reactions to horror as a kid. Then we chat about The Brave Little Toaster and how it destroyed all four of our childhoods. Anthropomorphic appliances, self-cannibalism, religion...this movie has it all and we laugh our way through describing just how messed up it actually is. Ket tells Kim about the highly requested and truly terrifying Smile 2. This left Ketryn truly shooketh and gave The Substance a run for its money in grotesque-ness. It was simply a smorgasbord of gore and the first time in podcast history that Ket is the one who can’t quite say a word.
