Michael Jai White is Android Cop - The Asylum's Future of Law EnforcementHe’s fought to the death with Satan, Jean-Claude Van Damme, The Joker, and Richard Nixon. Now Michael Jai White braves The Asylum to star in their unimaginatively monikered mockbuster of the RoboCop remake: Android Cop.

I so hope there’s a scene where he yells, “Leave, bitches!”

Now you might be thinking that with a title like Android Cop and a release date not at all timed to coincide with the release of RoboCop, this is going to be an out-and-out rip-off about Michael Jai White getting turned into a cyborg policeman. You would be wrong. Despite its title this is one of those Asylum mockbusters that’s more thematic in nature than a plot-for-plot knock-off like they used to do in the old days. Reading the plot synopsis makes Android Cop sound less like a RoboCop rip-off and more like the premise of a 20-year-old PM Entertainment flick:

In this futuristic, action-packed thriller, a cop and his robotic partner enter the Zone, a forbidden section of the city inhabited by a disease-stricken populace. Together, they discover the real reason everyone is sick and attempt to stop the illness – with the help of the machine’s powerful technology and weaponry.

Why do I have a feeling this is going to somehow involve zombies?

Charles S. Dutton (Alien 3) and – here’s a name I bet you haven’t heard in a while – Kadeem Hardison (“A Different World”) co-star in this sci-fi action thriller from Sand Sharks director Mark Akins.

Android Cop arrives on DVD/Blu/VOD February 4th.

Lest you think The Asylum are done mockbustering for the month of February, on the 18th they’ll get a jump on the big screen disaster epic Pompeii with their own Apocalypse Pompeii.
