Chances are you’re familiar with the creepy character known as Slender Man, who has been haunting the internet since 2009, and now he’s being blamed for an attempted murder in Waukesha County, Wisconsin.
An unnaturally tall figure with a black suit and blank white face, Slender Man is said to torture and torment young children, and he’s unexpectedly just found himself being fingered for a particularly nasty real-life crime.
JSOnline reports the chilling details of a near fatal crime that took place over the weekend in Wisconsin, wherein two pre-teen girls stabbed a 12-year-old classmate 19 times, allegedly to show their dedication to the fictional Slender Man. Yeah. Seriously. We wish we were making this up, but we’re unfortunately not.
The two young girls had allegedly planned the murder for nearly a year after coming across the story of Slender Man on the internet. According to their claims, they thought that the murder would show Slender Man that they were worthy of becoming his minions, and they say that he had been watching them in recent months, threatening to kill their families if they didn’t do as he said.
Their plan was to take up residence in Slender Man’s mansion after the crime, which they believed to be located in a forest in northern Wisconsin. One of the girls even packed pictures of her family members for the trip so that she wouldn’t forget what they looked like. It seems she planned on permanently spending the rest of her days with the character, never returning to her normal life.
The attempted murder took place at a local park, where the girls held down their victim and repeatedly stabbed her in the arms, legs, and torso. “The bad part of me wanted her to die,” one of the girls told police. “The good part of me wanted her to live.”
Thankfully, the victim survived her attack and was found on Saturday by a bicyclist, barely clinging to life. The two girls are being charged with attempted first-degree intentional homicide and are each facing up to 65 years in prison.
