Oscar-Winning Writer Heading Down the Well for The Ring 7D

Oscar Winning Writer Heading Down the Well for The Ring 7DLast month we learned that Paramount Pictures is working on a third installment in The Ring‘s American franchise, which is now being titled The Ring 7D. In addition to the title and dimensional change, a new writer has come on board, so read on for the latest!

Deadline reports that Oscar winner Akiva Goldsman is in talks to pen a new draft of the second sequel’s screenplay, working off an existing script by David Loucka. F. Javier Gutierrez was previously announced as the project’s director.

Goldman’s previous writing credits include I Am Legend, Batman & Robin and I, Robot; and he also executive produced the first three sequels in the Paranormal Activity franchise.

Based on a Japanese cult success, the first U.S. film went on to gross $249 million at the worldwide box office. That was enough to justify a sequel, which didn’t match the first one’s B.O. power but still grossed $160 million worldwide despite sucking CG deer dick.

The storyline revolved around a mysterious videotape that, when watched, kills the viewer a week after the person has watched it.

Walter Parkes and Laurie MacDonald are on board as producers, and it is unknown at this time if Naomi Watts will return to star.
