B-Sides: Once Bitten, Thrice Speed

Jim Carrey’s Once Bitten makes its second B-Sides appearance thanks to a theme song by the band 3 Speed and the only official music video from the 1985 teen horror comedy about a virgin getting mixed up with a much older vampire. Like Twilight, only intentionally funny.
Once Bitten stars a young Jim Carrey as a horny teenage virgin pursued by an aging vamp (Lauren Hutton) who desperately needs to suck the blood from the inner thigh of a male virgin in order to maintain her eternal youth. This doesn’t sit well with his chaste girlfriend (Karen Kopins). A love triangle still more believable than that of Twilight ensues.
3 Speed, the Boston synth rock band responsible for the soundtrack’s title song, enjoyed some success opening for the likes of Pat Benatar; yet, their record company, MCA, never allowed them to record a full album. Instead they were only allowed to contribute songs to various movie soundtracks, such as Once Bitten. Kind of a shame because the song is actually pretty darn good by 1980’s standards.
