Will Laurie Survive Blumhouse’s HALLOWEEN?

Who will survive and what will be left of them?

This Halloween we’ll be hit with Blumhouse’s direct sequel to John Carpenter’s Halloween. Danny McBride and David Gordon Green penned the script for this new film, and Green will direct. The new entry stars Judy Greer, Will Patton, Andi Matichak, and James Jude Courtney as Michael Myers. On top of that, this latest entry in the famed franchise will see the return of Jamie Lee Curtis as Laurie Strode.

But will Laurie Strode survive Blumhouse’s Halloween?

Laurie Strode has kicked the bucket a few times now in the sordid “choose your own adventure” timelines of the series. First, Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers said that both Laurie and her husband died in an unspecified accident in 1987. Also, then after famously returning to the iconic role that made her career in Halloween: H20, Jamie Lee then bit the big one, for the first time on-screen, in director Rick Rosenthal’s mostly useless sequel Halloween: Resurrection.

Will she live to fight another day after this Halloween? Let’s look at both sides of the coin and see if either comes out as the winner.

Let’s start with the reasons why and why not Laurie WILL die in Blumhouse’s Halloween. Perhaps the biggest reason going for this theory is that Jamie Lee Curtis has now played the role of Laurie Strode for 40 years. Count ’em out again, 40 fucking years. No doubt the scream queen supreme is ready to hang up the “I Love Ben Tramer” notebooks and pillowcases and head out to greener pastures. This theory is perhaps the most significant and only reason we need to predict Laurie will bite the dust come October 31st.

Now let’s take a look at all the reasons why and why not Laurie will survive this coming Halloween. First and foremost we could break all of this down by bringing up the simple point: why would they bother to bring Jamie Lee Curtis back as Laurie if they were going to kill her off? We can answer this question in the simplest way possible in that; the actress only agreed to return so she could put the character to rest more respectably.

But I doubt it. After all, as mentioned above, Jamie Lee has already gone this route. She signed on to Halloween: Resurrection so that she could kill off Laurie. She’s been there, done that. This time, Curtis must have signed on to see what the other side of the coin – i.e., giving Laurie a (seemingly) happy ending – would be like.

Also, let’s not forget the fact that Blumhouse infamously reshot the ending of this new Halloween after some (supposedly) disastrous test screenings. Maybe the original finale tested so poorly because it killed off poor Laurie, perhaps even Michael (yeah, right). And maybe Blumhouse’s new ending sees Laurie rise victorious in the end. Alternatively, you know, the exact opposite maybe the case. We’ll have to wait and see this Halloween.

After going through all of that, what is my personal opinion on the matter? I say that Jamie Lee Curtis and Laurie Strode WILL survive Blumhouse’s Halloween. Call it a hunch. However, in the end, my reasoning for believing that Laurie Strode will survive is simple: it’s too apparent that she will die. Every one of us heading into the theater this Halloween secretly harbors the thoughts that we’ll be witnessing Laurie’s last ride. I doubt it will be that easy. Cue yet another Halloween 2.

And while we’re on the subject of who lives and dies in Blumhouse’s Halloween, I think the shock value that people are thinking they’ll get from seeing Laurie bite the big one will transfer to one – if not, more likely – both her daughter, played by Judy Greer AND her granddaughter, played by Andi Matichak. Killing Laurie seems like it would be shocking, but it won’t be.

However, killing off Laurie’s daughter and granddaughter will be next to devastating. Especially considering, as we all assume going into this new movie that Laurie will die, I think we all understand Geer and Matichak will survive so they can continue the franchise onward. Not gonna happen. These two are as dead as doornails. Count on it.
