The Best Horror Movies Streaming On Pluto TV

Pluto TV is here for the nerds this month, and you may want to take notes. They are adding twelve Star Trek movies, four Indiana Jones titles, and the original Matrix trilogy. The streamer is also giving viewers a chance to revisit Practical Magic this August. The app is one of the few that are stepping up their genre offerings now that the Halloween season is officially underway. I hope others are taking notice and planning to follow their lead because September is five minutes away, and I want my autumn vibes. I found some gems, which are a little shinier than the others, to highlight for this streaming guide. So, let us dig in!
Here are my five picks for this August.
Dead Presidents
A Vietnam vet attempts to adjust to life after the war as he struggles to support his family but discovers his best shot at a better life is through crime. This 90s thriller starring Larenz Tate, Keith David, Chris Tucker, and Freddy Rodriguez never got nearly the amount of respect it deserved. So, I’m happy Pluto TV is giving me the chance to watch it as an adult and tell others what they missed out on. I might even buckle in for a real emotional roller coaster and make it a double feature with Set It Off this month.
Equilibrium
In a future where feelings are illegal, a man decides to overthrow the system. It makes sense that reverse psychology is how we get men to get in touch with their emotions. I cannot understand how a sci-fi movie starring Christian Bale and Taye Diggs flew under my radar. However, I am happy Pluto TV is bringing it to my attention and allowing me to watch it immediately. My plans for the night are sorted, and I will share my findings in a group chat near you.
Halloween H20: 20 Years Later
Laurie Strode is now the dean of a private school in Northern California with a son. So, it’s the perfect time for Michael Myers to upset her life once again. This is one of the best sequels in this storied franchise. This cast had 90s favorites like Michelle Williams, LL Cool J, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt. It was also thee Josh Hartnett’s first feature film. So, all of the people acting like Trap is the first time he has done horror are not only skipping over so much of his career but have forgotten he started out as one of Laurie’s forgotten children. Open the libraries immediately!
John Wick
A retired hitman gets back into the life after gangsters kill his dog, forcing him to seek revenge. If you had told me as a kid that Keanu Reeves would become one of my favorite action stars, I would have asked what’s in your coffee. However, this kind hottie is throwing hands for the most understandable reason, and these movies are as fun as they are long. Pluto TV is adding the first three John Wick films this month, and what a time to be alive, y’all!
The Ring
A journalist investigates a videotape that seemingly causes death to anyone who watches it. I think American remakes of international bangers are a crime. Ringu is amazing. I doubt anyone can follow in its footsteps. Which is why I never watched this movie. However, I’m doing #100HorrorMoviesIn92Days, so it is the perfect time to check out movies I feel indifferent about. Maybe I’ll luck out, and this will be one of the few to surprise me.
