5 Critically Acclaimed Thrillers Leaving Netflix This June

Denzel Washington - Devil in a Blue Dress

I was on Netflix last Saturday, like most millennials without social lives, and I noticed quite a few genre movies are leaving this June. As I was revisiting the 2010 remake of A Nightmare on Elm Street, I saw that it was leaving the streamer on June 30. This made me check the other franchise entries currently on the app. I sadly discovered everything Petty Freddy-related is leaving at the end of the month. If you want to revisit the first five Elm Street films and Wes Craven’s New Nightmare you should hurry. But that’s not all that’s leaving soon, either. Aquatic thriller fans should prepare to say goodbye to Meg 2: The Trench, which leaves the platform on June 28.

I started to panic because it felt like most of these titles just arrived on Netflix. So, I did some digging and am here to alert the masses about what films we’re about to lose. Check out these 5 critically acclaimed thrillers leaving the streamer on June 30. Then make a plan to watch them ASAP!

Devil In A Blue Dress (1995)

A war hero gets mixed up in a political scandal in 1948 Los Angeles. This Denzel Washington thriller is one of the best of the era. The stellar cast includes Don Cheadle, Lisa Nicole Carson, Tom Sizemore, and Jennifer Beals. As beloved as this film is, it’s still not talked about nearly enough for my liking. I hope we can change that while it is still on this app, and I plan to revisit it tonight. If you are late to this party or just ready to start your Denzel summer, I highly recommend that you see this title before it leaves Netflix.

Godzilla (2014)

Giant creatures appear and begin wreaking havoc on the world. However, one of them might also be the key to saving humanity. I am not a kaiju girl, but even I am looking at this movie now that I know the cast includes Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen, and Ken Watanabe. Everyone is going gaga for Godzilla this year, so I can’t imagine letting this ginormous, sweet child leave during the height of its most recent renaissance. Sadly, the streamer is not big enough to hold this movie and Godzilla Minus One for the rest of the summer. However, at least we had both in the same place for a few weeks.

Inside Man (2006)

A bank robbery turns into a hostage situation where nothing is as it seems. This Spike Lee joint isn’t your grandma’s heist movie. Not only is it thrilling and slick, but the film also has a dream cast. Denzel Washington, Clive Owen, Jodie Foster, Willem Dafoe, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and the late Christopher Plummer each churn out award-caliber performances. This has been one of my favorite gems on Netflix for a while, so I’m sad to see it go. It is one of my favorite thrillers of its era, and I’m impressed that it still holds up after nearly two decades.

Kill Bill: Vol. 1 (2003)

An assassin wakes up from a four-year coma and seeks revenge on the people who betrayed her. Whatever we feel about Quentin Tarantino, we must admit Kill Bill is one of the best things he has given us. This action-packed Uma Thurman vehicle was a moment. If you don’t believe me, you have until June 30 to watch Vol. 1 and Vol. 2 on Netflix. Then you can join the chorus of people who hoped his final movie would be a third installment that allows The Bride to do what she does best one more time.

X (2022)

A group of adult filmmakers finds more than they bargained for when they arrive at their location in rural Texas. It is wild that X is leaving Netflix the week before MaXXXine hits theaters. So, consider this your warning that time is running out if you plan to rewatch the first two movies in this franchise before heading to see how it all ends. Plus, this one has so many favorite lovable actors like Jenna Ortega, Kid Cudi, and Brittany Snow, to name a few. If nothing else, it feels like the perfect week to fall in love with all of them again.
