5 Horror Movies You Didn’t Know Quentin Tarantino Produced And Where To Watch Them

Quentin Tarantino is known for having opinions and making films. Most of us know him for the movies he’s written and directed, like Jackie Brown, Pulp Fiction, and Kill Bill: Volume 1 and 2. And we’re also familiar with his hot takes on other popular directors’ projects. However, we occasionally forget that Quentin is also a cinephile who lives for the movies. So, it makes sense that he would also aid other filmmakers in their cinematic pursuits. After all, he is not known for rushing from one film to another, so producing is a great way to fill the time between projects. What is shocking is the discovery of some lesser-known titles that Tarantino is attached to as a producer.

Here are five movies you might not have known he produced and where to find them.

From Dusk Till Dawn 2: Texas Blood Money (dir. Scott Spiegel)

Where You Can Watch: Paramount+ (with Showtime add-on)

Five criminals gather in Mexico for a bank heist but soon realize there are bigger concerns than the police. This sequel to the wildly popular From Dusk Till Dawn stars Danny Trejo, Robert Patrick, Tiffani Thiessen, and Bruce Campbell. The first one being so iconic is possibly how they got frequent Sam Raimi collaborator Scott Spiegel on board for this direct-to-video title. I imagine Spiegel is how they landed Bruce Campbell, so this math is starting to math. Because Quentin Tarantino wrote the screenplay and played the creepy brother in the first film, it makes sense that he would want to keep his producer credit on the following films. After all, this franchise is his and Robert Rodriguez’s baby. However, I must admit that it is a little ironic that the first franchise he was associated with started with a movie that starred George Clooney. Life is strange indeed.

From Dusk Till Dawn 3: The Hangman’s Daughter (dir. P. J. Pesce)

Where You Can Watch: Paramount+ (with Showtime add-on)

Travelers stumble upon a vampire-infested cantina in 1914 Mexico. You read that right! The franchise decided the third installment would be a prequel. It also confirms just how long these vampires were taking out criminals before the first movie introduced us to The Titty Twister. This period piece horror Western sees Danny Trejo return one more time. Quentin Tarantino, Robert Rodriguez, and Lawrence Bender remained producers for all three films, which makes Tarantino one of the few things all three movies have in common. From Dusk Till Dawn 3: The Hangman’s Daughter also stars Michael Parks and Orlando Jones. While it did not find many fans among the nine critics who reviewed it, it was nominated for a Saturn Award for “Best Home Video Release”. The direct-to-video titles flew fast and furious in that era, so picking up a nod at a genre show means something.

Hostel (dir. Eli Roth)

Where You Can Watch: Starz

Three backpackers head to a Slovak city where their dreams quickly become nightmares. Many people dug Hostel when it came out in 2005. It’s partially how Eli Roth found his audience and doubled down on what type of movies he wanted to make. It might also be part of the blame for many of us having a weird bias toward staying in hostels. Quentin Tarantino loves to surprise people, and this era of torture-porn horror definitely proved divisive. While it’s not at all in Tarantino’s style, it seems he appreciates the subgenre enough to help some of the titles get made. Roth and Tarantino have worked together quite a few times. So, it makes sense that Tarantino would produce a few of his projects. However, I never realized their relationship goes far back enough that he produced Roth’s second movie.

Hostel 2 (dir. Eli Roth)

Where You Can Watch: Starz

Three American college students studying abroad are lured to a hostel where they discover an upsetting scheme. If there is one thing the film industry loves, it’s cashing in on something that did well. This title is different because Heather Matarazzo and Bijou Phillips appear in this chapter of the Hostel saga. I am fond of both of them, so I love to see them working. Hostel 2 also connects to the first installment, unlike many other franchises that lose the continuity between films. Quentin Tarantino rarely enters the chat for franchises. so it says a lot when he signs on to produce sequels where he hasn’t written or directed any of the series. While this one did even worse among critics than the first one, enough people saw it that it earned over $35 million at the box office.

Past Midnight (dir. Jan Eliasberg)

Where You Can Watch: Prime Video and Tubi

A man jailed for killing his pregnant wife is paroled 15 years later. His social worker, believing he’s innocent, helps him find work and begins to investigate the case herself. This erotic thriller stars heavy hitters like Rutger Hauer, Natasha Richardson, and Clancy Brown. It is also Paul Giamatti’s first time receiving an on-screen acting credit. It sparks so much joy knowing he started in my favorite genre. Quentin Tarantino was billed as an Associate Producer after he made severe dialogue revisions. While he is uncredited as a writer, he can say his first producer credit was on a genre film directed by a woman. That might be the coolest piece of trivia I’ve picked up about this divisive filmmaker. I will hold onto that nugget very tightly. I am also obsessed with the fact that we can stream his first screen credit for free this month.
