WORLD WAR Z Video Game Sells Over One Million Copies

The sequel may have been canceled, but the strong sales figures enjoyed by the World War Z video game prove the franchise is not going away anytime soon. Within its first week of release, developer Saber Interactive announced that the game had sold over one million copies across all platforms. The PC version, which was released exclusively on the Epic Store, sold particularly well, with Epic announcing on Twitter that it had surpassed 250,000 units.

In the UK, WWZ was also the highest-selling retail game of its first week of release, beating both FIFA 19 and The Division 2 for the top spot.

The cooperative third-person shooter was released on April 16 to somewhat positive reviews, which is more than can be said for the film. The game pits players against vast hoards of zombies, with up to one thousand zombies being able to appear onscreen at any given time. There are also a wealth of gameplay options, including player vs. player, deathmatch, king of the hill, and story-driven campaigns.

Saber and publisher Focus Home Interactive are planning a ton of upcoming content for World War Z over the coming months, including a new mission set in Tokyo, new weapons and enemy types, an extreme difficulty mode, and weekly challenges.
