‘Magpie’ Star Daisy Ridley Talks Her New Psychological Thriller [FrightFest Halloween 2024]

At this year’s FrightFest Halloween event, we were lucky enough to have been able to talk to story writer and lead actress Daisy Ridley, screenwriter Tom Bateman, and director Sam Yates about their new psychological thriller Magpie.

In Magpie, Ridley stars as Anette, a married woman who becomes increasingly desolate and isolated after her husband leaves to accompany their daughter, Tillie, on a film shoot. Trapped at home with her baby and her continued anxiety, Anette’s life begins to spiral out of control as she struggles to maintain a firm grasp on everything she holds dear. The situation begins to spiral as her husband develops feelings for Alicia, an actress working alongside Tillie.

Ridley originally conceived the story of Magpie and served as one of the producers, with Bateman providing the screenplay. On the other hand, Yates previously directed the television film Agatha and the Curse of Ishtar and numerous stage productions before he helmed Magpie. In the interviews below, Ridley, Bateman, and Yates offer their own fascinating insights about the development of the film and what viewers can expect from the finished product.

Magpie received its world premiere at SXSW 2024, and it was released theatrically in the US by Shout! Studios on October 25. It’s out now on digital in the UK.
