‘Cellar Door’ Director Vaughn Stein On Crafting A Contemporary Fairy Tale
Your dream home comes with one stipulation: you can never go into the cellar. Would you still take the house? Well, the couple in Vaughn Stein’s new film Cellar Door sure do, but it comes with chilling consequences. Directing from a script by Sam Scott and Lori Evans Taylor, Stein delves into the darker corners of the human psyche in this contemporary take on morality tales and fables.
In the film:
Looking for a fresh start after a miscarriage, a couple (Jordana Brewster and Scott Speedman) find themselves being gifted the house of their dreams from a wealthy homeowner (Laurence Fishburne) with one caveat—they can never open the cellar door. Whether they can live without knowing triggers shocking consequences.
We spoke with Stein about his new dark fairytale, what drew him to the story, and working with his two talented main actors.
