‘The Dead Thing’ Director and Stars Talk Their New Dating Horror Story

In his feature film debut, The Dead Thing, co-writer and director Elric Kane examines the anxieties, insecurities, and momentary ecstasies associated with modern dating. Set in a dreamy Los Angeles (shot mostly at night), Alex (Blu Hunt) is a millennial drifting through life, dates, and one-night stands. She’s unmoored, searching for meaning in fleeting interactions. But then she meets Kyle (Ben Smith-Petersen) and he sets off a series of events that send Alex searching for the truth about who he really is.
We spoke Kane, Hunt, and Smith-Petersen about navigating intimacy, bringing these complicated characters to life, and more.
