‘Novocaine’ Directors Dan Berk and Robert Olsen Got Matching Cherry Pie Tattoos On Set [Watch]

Writing and directing duo Dan Berk and Robert Olsen are the minds behind feature films like Villains, starring Bill Skarsgard and Maika Monroe, and Significant Other, starring Monroe and Jake Lacy. They know how to mash genres together to create someone unique and utterly surprising. Now, their latest (and biggest) film Novocaine aims to mash together action with comedy and body horror to create an entertaining and disgusting experience.
Their third feature film follows Nathan Caine (Jack Quaid), an assistant manager at a San Diego bank who lives with a disability where he can’t feel pain. He lives a rather sheltered life, trying to protect himself from any potential injury, like chewing off his tongue or unknowingly impaling himself on a pencil. But when his workplace crush Sherry (Amber Midthunder) is taken hostage during a bank heist, Nate decides to burst his protective bubble and fight to save her.
We sat down with Berk and Olsen to discuss designing Nate’s tattoos, getting tattoos themselves, and epic fight choreography.
