10 Awesome Underrated Horror Movies to Stream on Amazon Prime During the Coronavirus Crisis

Now that so many of us have been asked to remain at home during the Coronavirus crisis, streaming entertainment is more important than every: as a distraction, an escape, and a way to feel connected to the outside world, cinema is more important than ever.

If you’re looking to bulk up on your horror knowledge, we’ve assembled a killer list of flicks streaming on Amazon Prime. These are the titles that often get lost in the shuffle, but are nonetheless totally worthy of your attention.

We’ll do our best to keep the recommendations coming, with additional Amazon recommendations, as well as lists of what’s worth watching on Netflix, Hulu, Shudder, and other streaming platforms.

While I’m not focusing on apocalyptic themes, some of these suggestions are ironically fitting for facing current anxieties. Enjoy!

Starry Eyes

Synopsis:

Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon

Directed by Scott Glosserman

Synopsis:
Nice, normal-looking Leslie Vernon (Nathan Baesel) has an obsession with movie-style slashers like Michael Myers, Jason Voorhees and Freddy Krueger. Leslie decides to follow in the footsteps of his heroes, and, ever the self-promoter, invites a documentary filmmaker (Angela Goethals) and her crew to follow him around as he constructs his own grisly legacy.

The Canal

Directed by Ivan Kavanagh

Synopsis:
David and his family move into a period house by a canal, and dismiss rumours of the place being haunted. David starts having nightmarish visions when he suspects his wife is cheating, and he begins to descend into madness.

We Are Still Here [Featured Image]

Directed by Ted Geoghegan

Synopsis:
Every 30 years, a lonely old house in the fields of New England wakes up and demands a sacrifice.

Late Phases

Directed by Adrián García Bogliano

Synopsis:
A secluded retirement community is plagued by mysterious and deadly attacks until a grizzled war veteran moves in, rallies the residents, and discovers a beast is behind the killings.

Southbound

Directed by Roxanne Benjamin, Matt Bettinelli-Olpin, David Bruckner, Tyler Gillett, Patrick Horvath, Justin Martinez, Radio Silence, and Chad Villella

Synopsis:
Interlocking tales of highway terror revolve around malevolent spirits at a truck stop, a mysterious traveller, a car accident and a home invasion.

Triangle

Directed by Christopher Smith

Synopsis:
Yacht passengers encounter mysterious weather conditions that force them to jump onto another ship, only to have the odd havoc increase.

The Battery

Directed by Jeremy Gardner

Synopsis:
Forced together by a zombie apocalypse, two former baseball players (Jeremy Gardner, Adam Cronheim) find their relationship becoming strained as they struggle to survive each day.

The Innkeepers

Directed by Ti West

Synopsis:
When two employees at a New England hotel decide to investigate stories of hauntings and ghosts, their curiosity wakens an unwanted presence.

Frankenstein’s Army

Directed by Richard Raaphorst

Synopsis:
A squad of Russian soldiers must go to a remote East German village to locate missing comrades in the waning days of Word War II. Unearthing a plot to resurrect fallen soldiers, the squad becomes the target of cobbled-together monsters.
