You guys loved our list of recent, underrated horror movies to stream during the quarantine. Since those were just the tip of the iceberg, and since social distancing means most of us are still spending tons of time at home, we figured we’d drop another 10 recommendations.

We’ve had a few epic years of horror movies with our beloved genre making serious inroads into the mainstream. With so many amazing offerings, it’s easier than ever to let winners slip between the cracks. With so many of us under self-quarantine, the need for high-quality streaming content is major. It’s with this in mind that we’ve put together this follow-up: 10 MORE Recent Underrated Horror Movies!
These are films that might have been overshadowed by bigger releases or simply never got the recognition they deserve. They’re all worthy of your time and attention, so if you haven’t seen some of them, plan to remedy that situation as soon as possible!

American Satan
Directed by Ash Avildsen
Synopsis:
A hungry young rock band drop out of college and move to Los Angeles’ Sunset Strip to chase after their dreams. However, they soon catch the dangerous attention of a sinister stranger.
Why It’s Underrated:
It’s a new spin on an old tale, but with plenty of sex, drugs, and rock and roll, you know you’re gonna have a good time. Malcolm McDowell is devilish as Mr. Capricorn.
This Is Our Home
Directed by Omri Dorani
Synopsis:
A couple’s weekend getaway goes awry when a child arrives in the middle of the night claiming to be their son.
Why It’s Underrated:
It’s so spooky you might not be able to stand it! Technically, it’s a slow burn, but the tense relationship between the leads will have you on edge before any hint of the supernatural emerges. The kid is super creepy!
The Head Hunter
Directed by Jordan Downey
Synopsis:
A mediaeval warrior’s gruesome collection of severed heads is missing only one – the monster that killed his daughter years ago.
Why It’s Underrated:
Prepare to be completely immersed in a world teeming with monsters and barbarians. Awesome practical effects and skillful storytelling will keep viewers rapt. The Head Hunter is a rare and raw, a powerful fusion of horror and fantasy.
Porno
Directed by Keola Racela
Synopsis:
When five teen employees at the local movie theater in a small Christian town discover a mysterious old film hidden in its basement, they unleash an alluring succubus who gives them a sex education…written in blood.
Why It’s Underrated:
It’s filthy, gag-inducing, and completely irreverent—and I mean that as a total compliment. Like most great horror-comedies, it’s grosser than it is scary, but there’s heart and soul that harkens back to the genre’s heyday. No, the film isn’t actually pornographic—but there’s a dick shot you won’t soon forget!
Sweetheart
Directed by Justin Dillard
Synopsis:
A shipwreck survivor on an uninhabited island must fend off a malevolent force that surfaces each night.
Why It’s Underrated:
Sweetheart plays out almost like a Lost spinoff movie, but with less sci-fi and way more bite! There seems to be a shortage of great creature flicks since Godzilla: King of the Monsters and, while the beast in Sweetheart isn’t a Kaiju, there a creep-factor that scratches that same itch. There are boat-loads of gender politics in the subtext, too.
St. Agatha
Directed by Darren Lynn Bousman
Synopsis:
Pregnant and on the run, young Mary seeks refuge in an isolated convent in small-town Georgia in the 1950s. When she discovers the community’s dark secrets, Mary must find a way to save herself and her baby before she’s trapped there forever.
Why It’s Underrated:
Darren Lynn Bousman delivers top-notch nunsploitation in St. Agatha. Carolyn Hennesy is straight-up sinister as Mother Superior.
The Shed
Directed by Frank Sabatella
Synopsis:
A teen and his best friend endure nonstop torment from bullies at school, but that soon changes when one discovers a bloodthirsty creature that resides in a country shed.
Why It’s Underrated:
The Shed plays out like a love letter to the original Fright Night. Enough said!
Incident in a Ghostland
Directed by Pascal Laugier
Synopsis:
Sixteen years after a traumatic event, a mother and two daughters reunite at the house where it happened. But soon their reunion starts to take a bizarre turn.
Why It’s Underrated:
Controversial? Problematic? Deeply disturbing? Of course, but what do you expect for the filmmaker behind Martyrs? Beneath it all, there’s an allegory for literature’s ability to soothe even the most nightmarish of circumstances. This one isn’t for the faint of heart.
Boarding School
Directed by Boaz Yakin
Synopsis:
Jacob Felsen experiences every kid’s worst nightmare — attending boarding school at a creepy old mansion with six teenage misfits and two menacing teachers. He must soon confront all of his fears as events become increasingly sinister and horrific.
Why It’s Underrated:
This modern Gothic is criminally underrated. It’s cerebral and surreal at times, but the young cast of this film delivers top-notch heart, soul, and terror. Boarding School hits the mark where similar flicks like Eli fall short. Don’t sleep in this one.
Pet
Directed by Carles Torrens
Synopsis:
Sweet but lonely Seth spends his days working in an animal shelter. In a hopeless daze, he has a chance encounter with beautiful young waitress Holly, who awakens something within him. Obsessed, he tries everything to win her over. Time and again, she rejects him, leading him to steal her journal and make a plan: to kidnap Holly. After Seth takes Holly, she wakes up in a cage beneath the animal shelter and is being treated like the dogs living above her.
Why It’s Underrated:
This is not the twisted “incel” love story you think it is. Prepare to have standard stalker tropes completely upended in this psychological, Hitchcockian thriller.
