10 Things You May Have Forgotten About The Forgotten On Its 10th Anniversary
These days it seems like a week can’t go by without seeing multiple articles waxing nostalgic about a certain movie celebrating its 10th, 15th, 20th, 25th, or 30th anniversary. Today I choose to commemorate the 10th anniversary of a film you’ve probably long since forgotten: The Forgotten.
You do remember the sci-fi conspiracy chiller The Forgotten, right?
Right?
Anyone?
Bueller?
See. That’s why I’m here to help you celebrate a decade of The Forgotten by helping you to remember it even existed. Here’s a helpful list of 10 things about The Forgotten you may have forgotten about on its 10th anniversary.
1. The Forgotten opened in theaters September 24, 2004. That’s exactly ten years ago today.
2. You may have actually seen The Forgotten and since forgotten. It wasn’t a particularly memorable movie one way or another. I know I saw it, and I can barely recall any specifics. You’d be mortified by the crap movies I can recount in vivid detail.
3. Maybe this clip will help. It’s that one nifty scene when Alfre Woodard’s cop character got sucked up into the clouds by an invisible alien tractor beam. Now do you remember?
4. The Forgotten starred Julianne Moore. She’s done a lot of movies since so even she may not remember much about this one either.
5. The Forgotten was originally slated to star Nicole Kidman, but I guess she opted instead to do that remake of The Stepford Wives that’s also best forgotten.
6. The Forgotten was an “X-Files”/”Twilight Zone”-ish conspiracy mystery thriller that wanted you to wonder if the main character was a paranoid schizophrenic or actually the victim of an out-of-this-world conspiracy – literally out of this world; as in aliens from outer space took her kid and blanked everyone else’s memory. Spoiler: It was aliens.
7. The Forgotten co-starred Dominic West, Gary Sinise, and Anthony Edwards. Whoa! I did not remember that. Thanks, IMDb.
8. Director Joseph Ruben previously helmed Dreamscape and the original version of The Stepfather. Now those movies I remember.
9. Writer Gerald Di Pego penned the teleplay for the 1989 TV movie The Trial of the Incredible Hulk, aka the one where Bill Bixby gets put on trial and his lawyer is Daredevil. Daredevil’s costume is an all-black ninja outfit with a visor, and Matt Murdock is played by the guy who also starred on “Street Hawk”. Yes, The Forgotten was so unmemorable I’m straining to fill ten slots.
10. Oh, I almost forgot. The Forgotten ended without ever adequately explaining what became of Alfre Woodard’s cop character after she got sucked up into the clouds by aliens.
So there you have it. Happy 10th anniversary, The Forgotten!
Now can we stop commemorating every damn movie anniversary you remember already?
