Power Rangers Reboot Moved to January 2017

If you were hoping to catch the upcoming Power Rangers reboot in a theater near you next summer, then you’re in for some seriously scorching disappointment. According to the folks over at ComicBookMovie, the film probably won’t hit the big screen until 2017. What’s worse — the flick is saddled with a horrendous release date. January 13, 2017, to be exact.

Those who follow the ebb and flow of the box office know that the first few months of the year are essentially graveyards where studios dump lackluster or problematic motion pictures. Some can end up making money — Kevin Hart’s Ride Along and the first Paul Blart made tons of cash despite a January release date — but most of them are pretty much dead on arrival. However, Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer doesn’t want fans to dwell on the negatives.

“We’re very excited and with Dean’s [Israelite] vision; we felt very comfortable looking for opportunistic dating. We really believe that great movies deliver whatever date they’re on… We’re picking whatever date we can win,” Feltheimer recently explained.

Fingers crossed that the Power Rangers reboot isn’t a complete letdown. And who knows? Maybe we’ll get something along the lines of director Joseph Kahn and producer Adi Shankar’s dark and gritty fan film Power Rangers: Zeo. Hey, a guy can dream, right?
