Several More Sign Up for The Belko Experiment

Several new additions to the cast of The Belko Experiment have come via James Gunn on Facebook as Sean Gunn (Super), Steve Agee (“New Girl”), David Dastmalchian (The Dark Knight), Gail Bean (Unexpected), and Valentine Miele (Super, Tromeo & Juliet) have joined the ever-growing cast.

As per Gunn…

Sean Gunn is my brother, obviously. You may recognize him from one of my other films – Kraglin in Guardians of the Galaxy, Alien Orphan in The Specials (film), Toby in SUPER, Humanzee in Humanzee, or numerous characters in our James Gunn’s PG Porn series (which Sean co-created with me and our brother Brian). Even more of you might recognize him as Kirk from “Gilmore Girls.” In addition to being my brother, he’s also my favorite actor in the world to work with so I’m excited to welcome him aboard Belko as Marty Espenscheid, a stoner cafeteria worker who has his own ideas about who is behind Belko.

In the film Marty’s best friend is Chet Valincourt, played by one of my best friends, Steve Agee. Steve of course had an iconic role in SUPER as “sleepy comic book guy who calls a child an asshole.” But he’s also one of the best standup comics around and is known for his regular roles on “The Sarah Silverman Program” and his recurring role on “New Girl.” He’s also a regular on “@midnight.”

David Dastmalchian is a guy I’ve known for a while. We met while both doing cameos in a friend’s film, immediately hit it off, and have wanted to work together ever since. He most recently has joined the Marvel family in Ant-Man. And because he’s bi-comic-book curious, he was also the Joker’s henchman in the Dark Knight – joining a very narrow league of actors in both Marvel and DC films. You may recognize him from his awesome role in Prisoners or his great new film Animals. In Belko, he’s Alonso “Lonny” Crane, who works for Michael Rooker’s character in maintenance. He’s a little slow. (Not David, Lonny).

Gail Bean is a woman I just met, but she blew me away in her audition. And meeting her briefly at the table read, I liked her even more. She’s a relative newcomer, but she’s receiving absolute raves for her role in the film Unexpected, which played at Sundance. She’s playing Leota Hynek, who takes the new girl Dany (played by Melonie Diaz) under her wing.

And finally, there’s another familiar face for people who know my films. He took the world by storm as Murray Martini in my first ever film Tromeo and Juliet, was the most dickish line-butter ever who more than got what was coming to him in SUPER, and, of course, he played my roommate/life partner/best pal “Val” in Humanzee – Valentine Miele. Someone asked me recently who do you think is the most underrated actor around, and I said Val. He’s a truly talented, charismatic guy. He’ll be playing Ross Reynolds, a family man and Dutch-speaking sales rep for Belko who doesn’t deal well with being forced to kill his fellow employees or die himself. But, then again, who would?

Valentine Miele

They all join the previously announced John Gallagher, Jr., Tony Goldwyn, Adria Arjona, Michael Rooker, Melonie Diaz, John C. McGinley, and Owain Yeoman as their fellow employees. Greg McLean directs from a script written by Gunn, who also produces alongside Peter Safran. Filming begins in Bogota, Colombia soon.
