There are some movie stars whose names you may not recognize but whose faces you definitely do, and Mary Ellen Trainor was one of those actresses. In fact, she was a bona fide icon of 80s cinema, and we’re bummed to report today that Trainor has passed away at the all-too-young age of 62.

“Tales from the Crypt” fans will surely recognize Trainor from the Christmas-themed episode “And All Through the House,” wherein she played a murderous woman pursued by a homicidal Santa Claus. It was one of the HBO show’s most memorable episodes, as well as one of the best.

The actress is also known for her roles in The Goonies and The Monster Squad, in both films playing the mother of the lead character. Other iconic movies on her resume include Ghostbusters 2, Romancing the Stone, Die Hard, Back to the Future Part 2, and all of the Lethal Weapon films.

Variety reports that Trainor passed away in her California home on May 20th. She is survived by her son, Alex; her mother, Jane; and siblings Ned, Jack, Barbara, and Carolyn.
