AMC to Launch New Horror Streaming Service
Horror fans have another scary movie service to be excited about! AMC announced its plans to release a new horror-only streaming service, Shudder. Shudder promises to deliver “Screams on Demand.”
The streaming service is currently offered in beta and is only available on the web, but AMC hopes to launch Shudder on some TV streaming devices soon. Shudder will cost $4.99 per month, or $49.99 per year.
AMC believes its bold movie selections will intrigue horror fans. They will have a collection of over 200 movies grouped into categories like “urban decay” and “romantic bloodsuckers,” categories you wouldn’t be able to find on Netflix.
Also available to subscribers is access to Shudder.tv, a pre-programed horror channel that will constantly run a lineup of movies on its own. Shudder.tv will basically be a year-round “FearFest,” AMC’s annual horror movie marathon.
There’s no current hard launch date for Shudder, but AMC hopes that by catering to the horror community, it will be able to fill a need that generic streaming services like Netflix can’t provide.
