On June 13th Starbreeze, in conjunction with Overkill Studios and The Walking Dead team, held an event at the LA House of Blues to showcase their upcoming cooperative first-person shooter, Overkill’s The Walking Dead. Set in the same universe as the characters and places in The Walking Dead, the game was also announced to be specially developed for their very own new VR headset.

Prior to the announcement was a showing of the VR headset, dubbed StarVR. StarVR boasts 210 degrees of visual freedom, allowing the user to see in all directions when wearing the headset. The trailer for the headset showed a man wearing the device holding a plastic gun covered with mocap sensors, though information about this gun-controller was not revealed at the event.

The trailer for Overkill’s The Walking Dead is half live-action film, half snippets from the game. There is not enough to say what the gameplay will be like, other than it will be four-player coop and will involve zombies and guns.

Along with this reveal, Starbreeze also told the audience that they would be porting PAYDAY to mobile devices in association with their new partner, CMune, after an investment of $1.4m to the mobile studio and that their cooperative first -erson shooter would also be receiving a new update wherein the team pulls a heist at a Las Vegas casino.

Finally, Starbreeze will be publishing their first game, RAID: World War II, a cooperative first-person shooter by Croatian developers Lion Game Lion.

Now, as far as E3 announcements go, it was pretty sparse. We didn’t really get a sense of what the game would be like, and going off of their previous work, I really would like to have known more. More information about Overkill’s The Walking Dead and StarVR will be pursued during E3, where Starbreeze is hosting a booth for anyone who would like to try their headset.
