Winona Ryder Heads to Netflix for Supernatural Thriller
My crush on Winona Ryder is real. It all started with Beetlejuice and continues to this very day, including the Jason Statham action flick Homefront. When someone announces that Ryder is attached to an upcoming project, I tend to take notice. I hope this intro doesn’t come across as creepy, but I’m sure it probably does. Sorry, Winona. Sorry, readers. I’m sorry.
Anyway, TV Line reports that Winona Ryder has signed on to star in an as-of-yet-untitled supernatural thriller for the folks at Netflix. Considering the company’s penchant for high-quality content, this is certainly good news for genre fans. And, of course, Winona Ryder fans. Again, I apologize for obsessing. Even I’m a little uncomfortable at this point.
Here’s what the untitled thriller is all about.
In the ’80s-set series, a young boy vanishes into thin air. As friends, family, and local police search for answers, they are drawn into an extraordinary mystery involving top-secret government experiments, terrifying supernatural forces and one very strange little girl. Ryder will play Joyce, a working class woman and the mother of the missing 2-year-old. In the quest to rescue her son from terrifying forces, she summons a strength she never knew she had.
Matt Duffer and Ross Duffer of Wayward Pines and Hidden fame will reportedly write and direct the upcoming Netflix series, which should run for a total of eight episodes. Unfortunately, we don’t have a premiere date or a proper title to share as of this writing.
