Halloween Returns a Direct Sequel to Original Halloween 2?
This week kicked off with the news that Michael Myers will come back to the big screen in Halloween Returns, which was recently described as a franchise “recalibration.” Today we’ve got another little update for you, and fans of the original franchise are sure to dig it!
Following up the news that Halloween Returns will feature a cop who is obsessed with Michael Myers, Shock Till You Drop reports that the character is none other than Deputy Gary Hunt, who was seen in 1981’s Halloween 2. Hunt is now sheriff of Haddonfield, says the site.
What does this mean? Well, it seems to suggest that Halloween Returns is somewhat of a direct sequel to the original Halloween 2, disregarding Rob Zombie’s films and perhaps even ignoring most of the original franchise’s sequels. Could this be the Halloween 3 that we never got, back in the 80s?
Dimension Films and Trancas International Films present Halloween Returns, written by Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton and directed by Dunstan. Casting is underway, and filming is set to begin as early as next month.
The film will pit a new group of Haddonfield youngsters against Myers. The now 18-year-old child of one of Myers’ victims plays a central role along with the child of a cop who’s long been obsessed with Myers’ case, even putting it before his own daughter.
Myers is now on death row and the two kids with their own personal vendettas against the killer sneak in to watch his execution. But when things go awry and Myers escapes, the pair, along with their friends, find themselves in the firing line.
