Cabin Fever – Director Travis Zariwny and Actor Matthew Daddario Talk Reboot

While on the red carpet at the premiere of Joe Dante’s Burying the Ex, we caught up with the director and one of the stars of the Cabin Fever reboot, Travis Zariwny and Matthew Daddario, respectively, to get the scoop on what to expect when said cabin runs red.

Dread Central: All right, so there’s a remake of Cabin Fever already?

Travis Zariwny: It’s a reboot of the original, the Eli Roth film. I recrafted it.

Dread Central: How did you do that?

Travis: How did I do it?

Dread Central: Yes.

Travis: Very well. Hey, here’s Matthew! He’s in the movie. How are you, man?

Matthew: I’m good.

Dread Central: I just saw Cerina Vincent the other day. She is the woman who shaves her legs in the original Cabin Fever – everyone squirms in that scene. Is there going to be one like that in the remake?

Travis: Absolutely, upgraded.

Dread Central: Oh, okay. How? Is she using an electric razor this time?

Travis: No, it’s nothing silly like that. We took it very seriously; the entire family took it very seriously.

Dread Central: Is there no karate “Pancakes!” kid?

Travis: I can’t tell you that. That has to be a surprise.

Dread Central: So, what can you tell me?

Travis: That Eli is super happy with it, the producers are happy with it, and it’s awesome.

Dread Central: When can we see it?

Travis: I believe it’s in the purchasing process right now. The general story is these kids go and have a little vacation and they get infected by a flesh-eating virus and then it’s a sad, terrible story really, but it’s awesome.

Matthew: I play Paul. Paul is kind of like trying to be the alpha male, but he is not sure.  He is just… when shit hits the fan, he kind of steps his game up a little bit so I think we can all relate to that; when odds get tough, you get tougher, yeah.

Dread Central: So will it be rated R?

Travis: Absolutely!

Matthew Daddario and Travis Zariwny (1024x768)

The film stars Gage Golightly (“Teen Wolf”), Dustin Ingram (Paranormal Activity 3), Samuel Davis (“From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series:), Matthew Daddario (Delivery Man), and Nadine Crocker (Deadgirl). Cabin Fever is produced by Contend’s Evan Astrowsky (who also produced the original film with Roth) and Armory Films’ Chris Lemole and Tim Zajaros. Travis Zariwny directs.

Travis had an amazing vision for my original script, and as a scary movie fan I really wanted to see it. I almost see this like re-staging a play, and I’m excited to see what ideas Travis and the cast bring to it. They’re all fans of the original and want to make a film that’s a new classic, and I believe they will,” said Eli Roth in an earlier exclusive interview.

Roth continues, “I saw the cut and thought that what Travis did was so smart – he kept the original script, but he changed the deaths so all the kills are different. You don’t know how they’re going to come. I was watching it and he didn’t tell me that he did that and I was so happy he did – because nobody wants to see a re-do that’s the same thing that they already know. So he leads you in one direction with the audience thinking that they know what’s coming, then puts a fantastic spin on it. And it looks awesome – it’s a really fun movie. I’m happily surprised at how it’s turned out.

Cabin Fever follows in Eli Roth’s original footsteps when a group of college students, who rent a cabin in the woods to do some partying, begin to fall victim to a flesh-eating virus and all hell breaks loose.
