Check Out First Photos from Newly Titled Independence Day Resurgence
Decades-later sequels seem to have become the norm in Hollywood, which is totally cool by us since we’d rather have films like Jurassic World than straight-up remakes of classics. Independence Day is the next fan favorite to get a sequel, and we’ve got the official title today along with a video of yesterday’s Global Production Event in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Previously referred to simply as Independence Day 2, the long-awaited sequel is now officially going by Independence Day Resurgence. Below are a couple of set photos for you this morning, giving us our first glimpse at the Moon Tug spacecraft, as well as the film’s new title card.

Director Roland Emmerich returns to helm the film. Independence Day Resurgence is set for release on June 24, 2016 — almost exactly 20 years from when the first film hit theaters on July 3, 1996. Dean Devlin, Emmerich, and Harald Kloser are producing. James A. Woods and Nicolas Wright wrote the most recent draft.
