Survivor Star Jonathan Penner Brings Forth The Bye Bye Man
As an avid fan of the TV show “Survivor,” the following news tickles me in all the right places. The Los Angeles Media Fund has come aboard to finance and co-produce the supernatural thriller The Bye Bye Man with Intrepid Pictures.
Deadline is reporting that Stacy Title will direct the script that Jonathan Penner (pictured; “Survivor”) adapted from the Robert Damon Schneck short story “The Bridge to Body Island,” which recounts a series of terrifying events experienced by three college students in the 1990s. Principal photography will begin in Cleveland, Ohio, in November.
The film will be produced by Intrepid’s Trevor Macy, who previously set this one with The Weinstein Company before it shook loose. Macy produces with LAMF’s Jeffrey Soros and Simon Horsman, who said the project “exemplifies the type of films we are seeking to finance and produce: commercial material that has an original approach or an ingenious angle to which the ever more discerning audience will respond.” LAMF launched in late 2014, and its first film is The Disappointments Room, the D.J. Caruso-directed film that will stars Kate Beckinsale, which Relativity has slated for release in early 2016.
The LAMF and Intrepid principals hinted this relationship will likely go beyond the initial film. Said Macy: “Jeffrey and Simon are extremely filmmaker-friendly, and we are delighted to be making this movie together.”
The story centers on three Wisconsin college students who come up against the sinister titular “Bye Bye Man.” Aside from this, the plot details are currently under wraps.
