The Green Inferno Brings the Jungle to Discovery’s Shark Week
If you’re tuning into Discovery’s “Shark After Dark” tonight, a part of the cable channel’s legendary Shark Week, then you’ll find yourself gawking at exclusive footage from director Eli Roth’s highly anticipated jungle-oriented horror opus The Green Inferno. This is certainly good news for those fans who have waited patiently for the flick to hit the big screen.
Although it was originally scheduled to invade theaters last year, Roth’s first full-length theatrical directorial effort since Hostel: Part II is now slated to arrive later this year. In addition to debuting footage from The Green Inferno on “Shark After Dark,” Roth will also host the late-night chat show.
What’s The Green Inferno about? This should help clear things up.
How far would you go for a cause you believe in? In Eli Roth’s terrifying new film, The Green Inferno, a group of college students take their humanitarian protest from New York to the Amazon jungle only to be taken prisoner by the indigenous tribe they came to save. The Green Inferno marks Eli Roth’s return to directing for the big screen for the first time since his Hostel franchise, and tells the story of what happens when “slacktavism,” the well-meaning social media response to global catastrophes, turns into terror in the depths of the Amazon rainforest.
Dark and primitive customs still rule the Amazon jungle: cannibalism and other mind, body and soul-destroying rituals. Trapped in the village, these high-tech modern-world students experience the ultimate in primal barbaric terror, suffering unspeakable acts of violence in an intense and chilling rituals reserved only for the most threatening intruders.
“Shark After Dark” featuring the exclusive Green Inferno footage airs tonight (July 8) at 11 p.m. on Discovery. And if you’re attending the San Diego Comic-Con this year, be sure to catch Eli Roth on the stage at NERD HQ for a special signing on Thursday, July 9 from 12:15 p.m. until 12:45 p.m. The Green Inferno, meanwhile, arrives on September 25.
