Spooky Things Are Afoot in Hideo Nakata’s Ghost Theater
Acclaimed filmmaker Hideo Nakata has directed a number of effective horror flicks over the years, including Ring, Dark Water, and The Incite Mill. He’s one of my favorite Japanese directors, and I tend to geek out whenever I discover the man has another flick looming on the horizon.
Not surprisingly, I’m pretty excited about Nakata’s upcoming genre effort Ghost Theater (Gekijourei). And while the director isn’t straying too far from the tropes he’s used in the past, the latest trailer still gave me a serious case of the creeps. Unfortunately, Stateside fans will probably have to wait a while to experience what Nakata has served up this time around. Time to brush up on my patience.
The folks at Screen Daily provided the following synopsis.
A young actress, Sara, who lands a leading role in a major play, soon encounters bitter rivalry amongst her fellow cast members which escalates into out-and-out hatred. Strange things start happening at rehearsals and Sara begins to investigate a very real and menacing threat.
Hideo Nakata’s Ghost Theater, which stars Haruka Shimazaki, Rika Adachi, Riho Takada, Keita Machida, Ikuji Nakamura, and Mantaro Koichi, hits theater in Japan on November 21.
