Some interesting news is coming out of the “Sleepy Hollow” camp as not only has Twilight alum Nikki Reed signed on for the upcoming third season, but a crossover with the venerable Fox series “Bones” is in the works!  Read on for the details of both.

First up, per THR, Reed has landed the key series regular role of Betsy Ross, who is described as “sexy with an unsuspecting physical prowess.” She’s the famous flag seamstress by day, but by night she’s a Colonial insider, a secret operative within George Washington’s mysterious ring of spies.  She’s also Ichabod’s (Tom Mison) former lover so expect some fireworks.

“We are all very excited to welcome Nikki Reed into the world of ‘Sleepy Hollow’,” co-creator/exec producer Len Wiseman told the site. “Nikki’s the perfect choice to bring a smart and sexy edge to our show’s twisted version of American icon Betsy Ross.”

On the personal front, the role will keep Reed close to her new husband and “The Vampire Diaries” star Ian Somerhalder since both series film in Atlanta now.

As for that mind-boggling crossover news, per TVLine, the idea was initially eyed for this fall, but logistical issues forced the network to postpone it until later in the season. Specific details, including which characters would appear in each episode, have not yet been disclosed, but the site was told “the EPs at both shows have an inventive idea in place that organically merges the vastly different ‘Bones’ and ‘Sleepy Hollow’ universes.” We can’t wait to see what they come up with!

Fox is kicking off the third season of “Sleepy Hollow” on Thursday, October 1st.

About “Sleepy Hollow” Season 3
“Sleepy Hollow” returns after a disquieting break in the demonic action, as our heroes – ICHABOD CRANE (Tom Mison) and ABBIE MILLS (Nicole Beharie) – adjust to a world seemingly without Moloch, witchy wives, evil sons, and headless ex-best friends. However, nothing is ever quite as it seems, and the eerie calm will quickly give way to the next tribulation, driven by a surprising supernatural presence that will challenge Crane and Mills in ways they never imagined.

From K/O Paper Products in association with 20th Century Fox Television, “Sleepy Hollow” is co-created by Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci, Phillip Iscove, and Len Wiseman (“Hawaii Five-0,” Underworld, and Total Recall). The series is executive-produced by Kurtzman, Orci, Wiseman, Heather Kadin, and new showrunner Clifton Campbell.
