There have been talks about remakes/sequels/reboots of Gremlins and Goonies for a long while now, and genre fans have been really guarded about their feelings for new versions of such beloved properties.

Recently ScreenCrush caught up with filmmaker Chris Columbus, who doled out the latest on these proposed films. Apparently he’s “heavily developing” both reboots with Warner Bros. and believes that both of those films will happen at some point, but “it’s a slow process, and I don’t think it will happen too quickly.

He went on to say that he’s staying involved to protect the franchises…

The stuff that I’m involved with — the Gremlins and Goonies reboots, for instance — they would do that without me. So, I’m staying involved just so I can be protective and actually protect what people love about those movies so it doesn’t go off track.

So, tell us… how do you feel about new versions of Gremlins and Goonies?
