Perhaps the most noteworthy thing about 1986’s Troll is that it spawned the unrelated sequel Troll 2, which has gone on to become the favorite of the two. The sequel led to a documentary, and now the original film is being turned into an animated movie. Read on for the early details!

The Wrap reports that Patricia Arquette has signed on to voice a witch in Troll: The Rise of Harry Potter, Jr., a 3D film that will essentially reboot the 1986 cult classic. John Carl Buechler, writer and director of the original, has agreed to co-produce the animated feature along with Peter Davy.

Newcomer Baxter Barlett will be the voice of young Harry Potter, Jr., a character previously played by Noah Hathaway. We must remind you that Troll was independently created and distributed 11 years before J.K. Rowling’s first Harry Potter book was written and published.

The new animated feature will revisit the magical world of the original with Harry Potter, Jr., turning to a magical witch to help him save the planet from the clutches of the troll wizard and his evil force. Pre-production is well under way, and a 2017 release is being eyed.

We have the financing in place and a strong international distributor,” said producer Peter Davy. “We are envisioning a series of animated sequels along with an animated TV series.”

You’re so cool, Patricia Arquette. You’re so cool.
