Portal to Hell Set to Premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival
The passing of “Rowdy” Roddy Piper hit the world of wrestling and cult cinema like a ton of bricks. The guy with a penchant for kicking ass and chewing bubblegum starred in several iconic motion pictures, including the undeniable cult classics They Live and Hell Comes to Frogtown. Fortunately, fans will get to see Piper battle the forces of otherworldly evil one more time.
Director Vivieno Caldinelli joined forces with writer Matt Watts and executive producers Todd Brown and Andrew Rosen for the forthcoming short film Portal to Hell, which will make its debut at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival. Piper stars as Jack, a man who discovers a — you guessed it — portal to hell in the basement of the building he manages.
The synopsis puts a finer point on the Piper’s cinematic adventure.
Jack is a simple man with simple needs. Mostly he just needs to be left alone to read his book. It’s a good book and he likes it, or at least he would if the tenants of the building he manages weren’t so damn needy themselves. And it’s not just blown fuses and clogged toilets here … no, when the building power goes out the culprit is a pair of tenants opening a portal to hell in the basement. Does this count as building maintenance? Is battling the supernatural part of Jack’s job description? Maybe not, but if Jack can’t close the portal the entire building and the whole world is screwed.
If you consider yourself a hardcore “Rowdy” Roddy Piper and you’re attending the Toronto International Film Festival, try to catch the screening of Portal to Hell.
