Titled simply “Pilot,” Episode 1.01 of “Fear the Walking Dead” is airing this coming Sunday night (August 23rd) in a special 90-minute debut; and as promised yesterday, courtesy of the show’s Facebook page, we have a look at the ep’s opening scene, which includes the never-before-seen title sequence.

“Fear the Walking Dead” is executive produced by Robert Kirkman, Gale Anne Hurd, Greg Nicotero, David Alpert, and showrunner David Erickson and produced by AMC Studios. The series stars Kim Dickens as Madison, Cliff Curtis as Travis, Frank Dillane as Nick, Alycia Debnam-Carey as Alicia, Elizabeth Rodriguez as Liza, Ruben Blades as Daniel, Mercedes Mason as Ofelia, and Lorenzo James Henrie as Chris. The extended 90-minute premiere episode is written by Robert Kirkman and Dave Erickson and directed by Adam Davidson.

Set in the same universe as “The Walking Dead,” “Fear the Walking Dead” is a gritty drama that explores the onset of the undead apocalypse through the lens of a fractured family in Los Angeles. In a city where people come to escape, shield secrets, and bury their pasts, a mysterious outbreak threatens to disrupt what little stability high school guidance counselor Madison Clark (Dickens) and English teacher Travis Manawa (Curtis) have managed to assemble.

“Fear the Walking Dead” Episode 1.01 – “Pilot” (airs 8/23/15)
In the opener of this “The Walking Dead” spin-off, a dysfunctional blended family is forced together when they realize a reported virus is actually the start of the zombie apocalypse.
