Though Norman Bates recently returned in the A&E series “Bates Motel,” it’s been two decades since the iconic slasher has starred in his own novel. But that all changes next year with the release of Psycho: Sanitarium, a prequel to Robert Bloch’s Psycho 2.

The folks at Entertainment Weekly got their hands on the book’s cover art as well as an excerpt from it, and they reveal that it will be hitting shelves next March. The novel was penned by Chet Williamson, and we encourage you to head over to EW and read the creepy excerpt.

Robert Bloch’s first Psycho novel, published in 1959, was followed up by another 23 years later, which told us that Norman Bates had been in a mental institution – from which, in the novel, he quickly escapes and embarks on a killing spree.

Chet Williamson’s follow-up answers the question: What was Norman up to in the sanitarium? What happened during the 20 years he was locked up?

Find out on March 1, 2016.
