The Asylum Going 3D with the Haunting of Winchester House

The Asylum Going 3D with the Haunting of Winchester HouseThe Asylum has been doing more non-mockbusters than usual of late so when I read about a film like Haunting of Winchester House, I instantly find myself wondering if this is another original or just their late-to-the-party Haunting of Connecticut mockbuster.

The premise centers on a family that moves into the Winchester House mansion to serve as caretakers and learn why the place has a reputation as one of the most haunted places in America after a malevolent force abducts their daughter.

I assume the film is based on this legendary haunted house in California. If so, I also assume many liberties will be taken.

Principal photography has begun on Haunting of Winchester House under direction of long-time Asylum inmate Mark Atkins, director of two recent Asylum dragon movies I haven’t seen and Allan Quatermain & the Temple of Skulls, which I did see and will try not to hold against him. Starring in the haunted house horror are relatively unknown rising actors Lira Kellerman, Michael Holmes, Patty Roberts, and Tomas Boykin. September 29th is the scheduled DVD release date.

Now here’s the kicker. The Asylum is reporting that Haunting of Winchester House will be “available in 3D from select retailers”. I’m not exactly sure what that means. Some DVD outlets will provide the 3D version and others only the 2D, I assume? More importantly, are they certain this one will be available in 3D at all? Keep in mind this is like the third or fourth time this year the Asylum has announced one of their DVD releases would be in 3D. At this point I’ll believe it when I’m wearing the glasses.
