World War Z Sequel Update
Like it or hate it (probably hate), World War Z grossed $589 million worldwide so a sequel is inevitably happening. While it’s still in the early stages, writer Steven Knight offered the following update.
“I was approached with the idea of, ‘How do we move this along?’ so who could resist? I think the beauty of the first film was the way that it never paused for breath. It never spent a moment thinking, ‘Hang on a minute; we’d better tell the audience what this is all about.’ It stayed in the moment; it stayed with that person.”
Brad Pitt is expected to return for the sequel, which is aiming for a 2017 release. The first film was plagued by reshoots and ended up being rated PG-13, a crushing disappointment for zombie fans, and if the above quote is accurate, then it looks like we’ll be getting another straightforward action pic rather than a true living dead picture. Sigh. Maybe one day the franchise will become tired and they’ll reboot it using Max Brook’s original novel as, y’know, the template for the plot.
