THR reports that Mitchell is in negotiations to join the monster movie’s cast, which will reunite him with fellow Straight Outta Compton star Corey Hawkins. Mitchell is being eyed to play an easy going pilot in the film, which heads toward a late-October production start in Hawaii.
Tom Hiddleston, Brie Larson, and Toby Kebbell are starring in the project, which is being directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts and sees a team of explorers venture into the mysterious, creature-laden isle that is also the home of the king of the apes.
Derek Connolly (Jurassic World), Max Borenstein (Godzilla), John Gatins (Flight), and Dan Gilroy (Nightcrawler) are among those that have worked on the script with Connolly being the most recent.
Legendary’s Thomas Tull and Jon Jashni are producing with Mary Parent.
The movie is scheduled for a March 10, 2017, release.
