NBC Commits to the Brides of Dracula

They may not have had much success with the Prince of Darkness himself (the network’s short-lived “Dracula” series only lasted 10 episodes during the 2013-14 season), but NBC is about to visit the legendary story once more… from the female perspective!  A new series titled “Brides” is on its way, based on the three brides of Dracula, and we have the early details right here courtesy of Deadline.

Per the site, “Brides,” a hot Gothic soap drama from playwright, screenwriter, and comic book writer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and top TV producer Greg Berlanti poses the question:  What if Van Helsing did not kill the three brides of Dracula, and instead they are now living in New York City?

NBC has given “Brides” a pilot production commitment. Written by Aguirre-Sacasa, the potential series is described as “a sexy reimagining of Dracula as a family drama with a trio of strong, diverse female leads, a show about empowered women and the things they do to maintain wealth, prestige, legacy — and their non-traditional family.”

The project hails from Warner Bros. Television and studio-based Berlanti Productions with Aguirre-Sacasa, Berlanti, and Berlanti Productions’ Sarah Schechter executive producing.

“Brides” expands the relationship between Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, Chief Creative Officer of Archie Comics, and Berlanti. The two teamed last season for “Riverdale,” a live-action drama based on the characters from the Archie comics. The project, originally set up at Fox, recently relocated to The CW, where it is in active development.

Below is a look at the brides as they appeared in Bram Stoker’s Dracula back in 1992.  Expect more about the updated “Brides” soon!
