Art Imitates Life as NBC Preps Psychological Thriller The Watcher
You may have heard in the news recently about a New Jersey family who bought a home last summer and soon thereafter began receiving menacing anonymous letters from someone claiming to have been “watching” the house for decades. “I am the Watcher. Bring me your young blood,” one of the notes read.
They’ve now filed suit against the former owners, and in a case of art imitating life, NBC is turning their ordeal into a potential new TV series.
Per Deadline, the project is being put together by former “Homeland” executive producer Alex Cary, producer Aaron Kaplan, and Universal TV. Titled “The Watcher,” the show was bought preemptively by NBC, marking the first sale under an overall deal Cary signed with Universal TV back in May.
Written by Cary, “The Watcher” is a psychological thriller based on real events surrounding a young couple and their two children who move into their dream home in a small town, only to be terrorized by anonymous letters and sinister threats and trapped in the web of a dangerous mystery. Cary and Kapital Entertainment’s Kaplan executive produce.
“The Watcher” story rights were handled by attorneys David Fox and Lee Levitt, who reps the family.
It certainly sounds creepy, but we’re not sure if it falls in the horror category so we’ll keep our eyes and ears open and bring you more if it sounds Dread-worthy.
