Chinese Filck The Ghouls Will Screen in the US Using ScreenX Technology
The Chinese horror/fantasy film The Ghouls will be distributed in the US by the AMC theatre chain, as the film is owned by their parent company, the Chinese giant Wanda Entertainment.
However, although it will only be given a limited theatrical release, it will be screened using the new ScreenX technology. This is where the film is displayed at both the front and sides of the theatre, offering a 270-degree view using a total of 13 projectors.
Wanda is hoping the make this style of moviegoing a success and is planning to build over 1,000 ScreenX-capable theatres by 2020.
Based on the bestselling series of novels by Zhang Muye and directed by Wu Ershan, The Ghouls follows a group of adventurers exploring an ancient tomb.
So, could ScreenX be the future of moviegoing, or is it the next 3D-style fad that will end up dead and buried? We’ll see.
