There’s good news, and there’s even better news, which is the category in which this latest tidbit of information about Starz’s adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s “American Gods” falls.  David Slade, who worked with “American Gods” co-writer/co-showrunner Bryan Fuller on several episodes of “Hannibal,” has joined the upcoming series as an executive producer and director.

Per Deadline, Slade (30 Days of Night, Hard Candy, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse) is set to helm the pilot and several more episodes of FremantleMedia North America’s adaptation of Gaiman’s Hugo and Nebula Award-winning contemporary fantasy novel. Michael Green is Fuller’s co-writer/co-showrunner.  Fuller also tweeted the news:

Currently in pre-production, the first season of “American Gods” is scheduled to debut on Starz in 2017. The story tells of a war between old and new gods, and Gaiman will also write a number of the scripts for the first season.

Along with Slade, Fuller, Green, and Gaiman, FremantleMedia North America’s Craig Cegielski and Stefanie Berk are also exec producers.  Starz’s SVP of Original Programming Ken Segna is the executive in charge for the channel, which will retain all network pay TV and SVOD rights to the project. FremantleMedia will distribute the series worldwide.
